Proposal For A Management Model For Photographic Heritage In Cuban Universities: An Experience At The University Of Medical Sciences Of Havana
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present a management model for university photographic heritage based on the management processes linked to photographic archives: organization, description, assessment, conservation and dissemination. In the organization process, semiotics was applied as a tool for the analysis of photographic content. The methodology to read the signs in the photograph was obtained as a result. In the description process, consultation instruments were proposed with the objective of providing detailed information about the documents, their context and the documentary system that has produced them: the proposal for the application of the ISDIAH Standard at the background level of the University's photographic archive. of Havana and the proposal to apply the ISAD Standard (G) at the series and documentary unit level. As a result of the evaluation process, the methodology for evaluating the photographs and the transfer deadline table were obtained. In the conservation process, preventive measures were developed and implemented to guarantee the adequate conservation of photographic materials to fulfill the social function of the university archive. Finally, in the dissemination process, a series of activities carried out by the archive are proposed to put its documentary collection at the service of society. The application of the model in all units of the University of Medical Sciences of Havana guarantees coherence in the implementation of the processes for the treatment of photography.
